IDS GeoRadar, part of Hexagon Group, provides products and solutions, based on radar technology that secures people safety in dangerous environments and prevents risk hazards in mining, civil engineering, and monitoring applications. Our pioneering spirit and continuous commitment to research & development has enabled us to be at the forefront of the radar technologies applications across the globe.
The company is a leading provider of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Monitoring Radar solutions worldwide.
For our Pisa based office we are looking for a System Engineer who will join the System Design team, an inclusive and brilliant group of engineers and physicists within the R&D department. The team plays a central role within the organization, leading the development process and conceiving the architecture of new systems. The overall goal is to reconcile application inputs with elements of innovation, bringing cutting-edge and successful products to market without neglecting reliability and mass production aspects.
As a System Engineer, the new resource will work closely with specialists (electronic and mechanical engineers, SW/FW developers) from other R&D teams and external partners, always maintaining an overarching product vision and overseeing the entire lifecycle. The role involves system design from initial conception to supporting the first installations, including system architecture definition, prototyping, validation, and production. Specifically, the resource will personally contribute to defining the specifications of various modules (HW/FW/SW) that make up the system and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with agreed-upon functional and performance requirements once the modules have been developed, individually tested by specialists, and finally integrated. In addition, there are also experimental activities planned, involving planning and managing measurement campaigns with prototypes or systems that are in development or already on the market.
The resource will be supported by a Senior System Engineer who will act as a mentor, promoting professional growth and providing the necessary knowledge and tools to tackle technical challenges within development projects with competence and effectiveness.
What we want you to do:
- User requirement analysis
- System architecture definition
- Definition of technical development specifications
- Creation of mathematical models and algorithms for simulations aimed at system analysis
- Integration testing (definition and execution of procedures)
- System performance testing (definition and execution of procedures)
- Data processing
- Development of data analysis software tools with the goal of improving/automating production processes, system analysis, support for validation, and identification of potential product non-conformities
- Adherence to health and safety requirements in the workplace, as well as at customer/distributor and end-user locations
- Other tasks may be required during the course of employment
What would we like to see:
- Master's degree in Engineering (Electronics, Telecommunications, Biomedical, Automation) or Physics
- Desirable, but not mandatory, basic work experience in radar systems and signal processing
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Curious and eager to learn
- Flexible and adaptable
- Innovative mindset oriented towards positive change
- Ability to work independently
- Team player
- Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
- Desirable, but not mandatory, basic knowledge of Matlab programming
Languages:
- Italian: Mother tongue
- English: Good written and spoken skills
Travel Requirements:
- Available for travel in Italy and abroad for experiments related to new systems under development (on average less than 10% of the time)

We are looking for a Software Designer for our PISA office.
The person will work in a heterogeneous team with the initial task of understanding the algorithms devised by data processing experts – collaborating with them to finalize the data – and with the responsibility of designing and implementing the necessary software architectures to efficiently implement those data, releasing software components to be directly integrated in present and future IDS GeoRadar software products. The role will gradually move to be involved in the conceptualization phase of the algorithms themselves and it will also include experimental activities, programming and managing measurement campaigns with prototypes or systems that are under development or already on the market.
The role will primarily interact with other departments within the R&D, particularly with the Software Development team, taking care of the development and release of IDS GeoRadar software products, and the System Design team, since the way data are collected depends on the radar system configuration used. Also, there will be expected interactions with the Product Management group to receive feedback from customers regarding the radar system’s performance and data processing.
What we want you to do:
- Analysis and schematization of technical problems related to the data collected by IDS GeoRadar products
- Designing algorithms for processing the aforementioned data to solve identified and contextualized problems
- Developing the code that implements the conceived algorithms, code management, function testing, and result verification
- Maintenance activities for the developed code
- Possible measurement campaigns with IDS GeoRadar products or prototypes
- Additional tasks that may be assigned from time to time
We would like to see:
- Master’s degree in computer engineering, artificial intelligence and data science/engineering, robotics and automation engineering, mathematics, or physics with a specialization in scientific programming
- Doctorate in data science/data processing
- Knowledge of programming in modern C++ (14 and above)
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures
- Knowledge of math and linear algebra
- Knowledge of parallel computing processing libraries
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming
- Knowledge of software packaging delivery tools
- Experience in programming under Windows/Linux
- Experience in using collaborative software management tools
Languages:
- Italian: perfect written and spoken communication skills
- English: strong written and spoken communication skills
Travel requirements:
- The role may involve occasional short trips for equipment testing
